june’s first day

Before June was born, I had all intentions of scheduling a newborn session with a professional photographer. However, it kept getting pushed off with the stress of work, selling our Greenlake house, buying our Redmond house and making updates, and dealing with Drew (who turns two in a week). So it was great that we were able to get newborn photos from Bella Baby Photography who offers their services directly at the hospital.

Of course I wasn’t prepared with being in the photos so I look like a slob compared to the rest of the family. 🙂

welcome to the world, baby june

Just like her big brother, June decided it was time to make her arrival – she came 11 days early!

June Ryan Thao-Vi Carpenter entered the world at 1:33 pm on Monday, November 7th, 2016. She weighed in at 5.14 lbs and measured 18 inches long.

Here’s a recap of her arrival (much shorter than Drew’s recap):

  • Sunday, November 6th:
    • We had just celebrated all the PEPS kids 2nd birthday party at the Little Gym in Seattle.
    • Didn’t feel any early labor signs and if you ask Keith, it was the sushi that I had him pick me up that evening for my “second” dinner. 🙂
  • Monday, November 7th:
    • 1:00 AM:  I swear it was 1:00 AM on the dot when I awoke from a deep sleep to what I thought was my water breaking (otherwise I had peed myself a teeny bit…ha!).
    • 1:05 AM:  Woke up Keith, who had taken NyQuil before bed, and told him that it was likely my water broke. Poor guy was so drowsy and was excited for the big day ahead of him as he was heading to our new house to kick-off our contractors and do some demo work himself. I also called my doctor’s office around this time and they told me to give it an hour or so. If I was still leaking, they said to call back.
    • 1:05 – 2:30 AM:  Of course I couldn’t go back to sleep so I decided to use this time to finish up my work in order for my co-workers to take over projects, and take a shower. Also, I texted Kerry at some point to let her know June ruined our lunch plans (what’s with our kids ruining our lunches)! I guess June wanted to be birthday twins with her Auntie Kerry. 🙂
    • 2:30 AM:  Called my doctor’s office back and they suggested I come into Triage to check if it was my water that broke.
    • 3:30 AM:  My parents arrived to watch Drew and look after Pearl a little while we headed to the hospital.
    • 4:00 AM – 11:00 AM:  Honestly, I don’t remember much during this timeframe since I was texting a lot with family, friends and co-workers. At some point, Keith even left to go check in with our contractors and check on Pearl.
    • 11:00 – 1:00 PM:  It was probably just after 11:00 AM when I started to feel contractions – the kind that really hurt. Got an epidural around 12:00 PM I think.
    • 1:00 PM:  The nurse informed Dr. Johannson, who took over for Dr. Bomke, that I was ready to push.
    • 1:18 PM:  Both Dr. Bomke and Dr. Johannson thought this delivery was going to be a lot faster than Drew’s. They both guessed 45 mins or less of pushing, which I was totally on board with since I pushed for so long with Drew. It ended up only taking 15 mins of pushing and four total pushes to get June out! And we didn’t even need to use the vacuum this time!
    • 1:33 PM:  June Ryan Thao-Vi Carpenter makes her arrival into the world!

Here are some photos of June’s first few days!

peps: 2nd birthday party

We love getting together with our PEPS friends, especially when it involves pizza and cupcakes! For the kiddos’ 2nd birthday this year, we decided to rent out the Little Gym in Seattle. The kids had a blast and I think it’s safe to say that their favorite part was the  bouncy mat (not sure if that’s what it’s called). The parents had some fun too, especially the dads trying to show off their basketball skills with the toddler hoop.

Check out Drew’s face in the video – he sure did enjoy himself!

P.S. Since I’m always back dating my posts, I should note that this was the day before June arrived! I definitely did not think I was going to have a baby the next day. 🙂
