boy & sidekick

As many of you know, Pearl is a very hyperactive dog. She loves just about anyone and will greet you with open arms (literally) at the door. It is this characteristic that makes her a terrible guard dog but we love her just the same.

Although Pearl is great with kids (as seen with her friends Aiden, Grace, Stella, Addy, Carson and Lily), we weren’t sure how she would be around a new baby in the house. You can see in this post of her first encounter with Drew that she was a bit hesitant. However, she immediately got over that and has been such a good big sister to her baby brother. She loves to give him kisses, except when he’s crying – she hasn’t figured out how to handle that type of situation yet. 😉

Here’s a few pictures of what I’m referring to as the boy and sidekick series:

one month down…many more to go!

It’s hard to believe that a few weeks ago Drew hit his one month mark! He’s growing up into such a handsome boy – great facial expressions and so much swagger. We absolutely adore our little man!

One month stats:
– Weight: 8 lbs 12.5 ounces
– Height: 20.75 inches

Here are some picture highlights from Drew’s first month:

wait what?!?

Keith went back to work this week after taking a month off for paternity leave. Needless to say we miss him like crazy, especially Drew and Pearl.

We’ve been able to keep busy with lunch dates and trips to UVillage. It’s sad to think I’ll be going back to work in a couple months so I’m trying to enjoy the time I have left with my little man. And although we miss daddy, we’re thankful for all the quality time we were able to get together and count down the hours until we see him again. 🙂

tis the season

With Drew only a few weeks old, we decided to host Christmas at our house. It was really nice not having to travel during the holidays for once.

Larry, Rivers and Catherine made their way to Seattle to spend the holidays with us and most importantly, meet Drew for the first time. We spent Christmas Eve at my Aunt Thao’s house and then Christmas day at our house.

I think everyone enjoyed the time together (as seen in the slideshow) and we look forward to Uncle Tom, Uncle Bill and Aunt Helena joining us next year!

photo light therapy

In my previous post about Drew’s first doctor’s appointment, I mentioned that we opted for the in-home photo light therapy vs. hospital stay. What we thought would be a day or so of Drew on the “tanning” bed turned into six days.

The idea was to get Drew on the bed as much as possible. The more feedings and light exposure he received, the more likely the bilirubin would be pushed out of his system and lower his level. Those six days were a little rough in terms of sleep for Keith, Pearl and I (although we expected that with a newborn), we did our best to follow the doctor’s instructions. We woke up almost every hour or two for feedings and diaper changes.

The nurse came by everyday to check on Drew’s vitals and obtain some blood. Each day he showed improvement and even got back to his birth weight plus more! By the end of the therapy, he had gained a whole pound! And our poor little guy handled the daily heel pokes like a champ – he’s one tough baby!

Here are some photos from that week. We all decided to sleep in the family room since it was more comfortable and convenient for Drew…not so much for the rest of us. 😉

drew’s first day

On Drew’s first day, we opted to have newborn photos taken by Bella Baby Photography even though we had a separate newborn photo session with our other photographer. After all, the session itself was free and we weren’t obligated to buy any of the photos. Of course once we saw them, we had to buy them!

Drew just hit two weeks on Friday and I can already see some changes. Wish they could stay this size forever but at least I have these photos to look back on.

my baby bump

Keith, Pearl and I had a great time during our maternity photo session. We had to break the session up into two days as the first day was crummy outside and got dark fast which didn’t help with lighting. The photos were taken when I was 37 and 38 weeks pregnant. It’s crazy how quickly the baby bump grew within a week!
